A private Montessori school teacher has been sentence to eight months imprisonment for assaulting two pupils of the same school in Adenta.
The Prosecutor, District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mary Esinam Ahafianyo, told the Madina Magistrate court ‘2’ presided by Mr Jojo Amoah Hagan that for some time the 30 year old teacher, Emmanuel Agyapong had been indecently assaulting some girls in the school including the two victims (aged nine and 10) by fondling them.
DSP Ahafianyo said on October 10, 2012, the first victim stayed on after class to supervise her mates to clean the classroom. After the others had finished cleaning and left, Agyapong engaged the victim and one other friend in storytelling
The prosecutor said at a point, the friend went out to buy water and Agyapong took the opportunity to fondle the victim’s buttocks and tried to insert his fingers into her vagina but she resisted.
DSP Ahafianyo said the victim, after the incident, went to the dormitory weeping and informed
DSP Ahafianyo said the second victim happened to be a regular visitor to Agyapong’s class because she had friends there.
She said on three different occasions, Agyapong fondled the second victim’s buttocks and her genitals and warned her not to tell anyone after each act.
On October 11, 2012, the prosecution told the court that the first victim informed the second victim of the ordeal Agyapong had taken her through and she narrated hers as well to the first victim.
DSP Ahafianyo added that both victims later informed the wife of the owner of the school, Mrs Monica Ohene Opare, of their ordeal.
According to the prosecutor authorities of the school were later informed and Agyapong was confronted which he pleaded with them for leniency, but they refused and handed him over to the police
