Tunisia arrests blogger for ‘defaming’ army officers

Yassine Ayari,who is 33 years of age,was detained overnight  at Tunis-Carthage airport.He was tried in absentia for defaming an army officer on November 18th and was sentenced in three years in jail.

But his lawyer said, he did not know anything about the verdict since he was at France as at the time the verdict was passed.

In recent months, Ayari had published blogs very critical of Nidaa Tounes.

Essebsi is a veteran politician who served under previous Tunisian regimes, including in the government of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali who was ousted in the 2011 uprising.
