A 75 year old chief of Salikuga of the Zabzugu traditional area in the Northern Region has been shot dead by an unknown assailant at 8pm yesterday.
Salikuga Naa, Sumani Kibu met his untimely death on his way back from the mosque to his palace after having observed the last prayer of the day.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh told our correspondent in Tamale that the police suspect a foul play by an aggrieved person in the community. He said the regent of Zabzugu had demarcated a land for farming and grazing.
But a Fulani herds man who could not control his cattle belonging to one Alhaji Gariba strayed into the suspects farm and destroyed his farm produce.
According to DSP Tetteh, the suspect attacked the Fulani Herds man and destroyed his house. The matter was reported to the police and investigation is on-going.
The regent of Zabzugu according to the Police Public Relations Officer called for the case for settlement between the parties.
He believes because the aggrieved party was not satisfied with the settlement by the chief might have led to the killing of the sub-chief. No arrests have been made but the police are investigating the case to bring the culprit to book.
